Ananthapuramu, October 8: In a unique community-driven initiative aimed at helping poor and needy patients, Discover Ananthapuram has launched the “Gift a Wheel Chair” concept, encouraging citizens to directly contribute wheelchairs and stretchers to government hospitals and become part of the solution.

The initiative seeks to establish a Wheel Chair Bank at Government General Hospital (GGH), Ananthapuramu, so that patients who arrive at the hospital without the means to arrange mobility assistance can access wheelchairs when they need them.

First step: Donation of 25 wheelchairs

Taking the first step in the initiative, A. G. Prameelamma, founder of AGS Foundation, donated 25 wheelchairs to the Wheel Chair Bank at GGH Ananthapuramu.

A. G. Prameelamma, now in her 80s, is a renowned social worker who has been working for the welfare of communities in more than 21 villages and Anantapur town for the past 14 years. Popularly known as “చదువుల అమ్మమ్మ”, she has dedicated years to initiatives focused on education and social service.

Her contribution of 25 wheelchairs is being seen as an important beginning for the community-based initiative, with Discover Ananthapuram calling upon more individuals, organisations and philanthropists to follow her example.

‘Don’t just talk about problems — be part of the solution’

Speaking on the occasion, Anil Kumar, founder of Discover Ananthapuram, said that social responsibility should go beyond merely highlighting problems.

“It is not just about escalating problems; it is also about being part of the solution.”

He appealed to citizens to donate wheelchairs and stretchers to government hospitals and directly contribute towards making healthcare facilities more accessible to poor patients.

Anil Kumar said that thousands of economically disadvantaged people depend on government hospitals for treatment, and even a basic requirement such as a wheelchair can make a significant difference to a patient and their family.

He urged people to “be part of the change rather than just talking about the change.”

A people’s initiative for people’s needs

The Gift a Wheel Chair concept is designed around a simple idea: instead of waiting for government hospitals to meet every additional requirement, citizens can collectively identify practical needs and contribute towards fulfilling them.

Under the initiative, individuals, families, companies, charitable organisations and community groups can come forward to gift wheelchairs or stretchers, helping create a larger pool of mobility equipment that can be used by patients visiting government hospitals.

Discover Ananthapuram expressed its gratitude to the doctors, medical staff and administration of Government General Hospital, Ananthapuramu, for providing an opportunity to serve poor and needy patients through the initiative.

The organisation said that A. G. Prameelamma’s donation of 25 wheelchairs is only the beginning, and hoped that many more people would come forward to strengthen the Wheel Chair Bank.

A call to the community

The initiative carries a simple message:

“ప్రజల కోసం — ప్రజల చేత”
For the people, by the people.

Discover Ananthapuram appealed to citizens to transform concern into action by donating mobility equipment to government hospitals and helping patients who need support the most.

The organisation hopes that the Wheel Chair Bank at GGH Ananthapuramu will become a model for citizen participation in improving public healthcare infrastructure and inspire similar initiatives at other government hospitals.
