West Bengal Karate players shine at 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship

West Bengal’s talented karate players have made India proud at the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship, held in Durban, South Africa. The event took place from November 28 to December 1, 2024.

Seven players from West Bengal, trained by legendary karateka Hanshi Premjit Sen, were part of the Indian National team. The medal winners are:

1. Bipasha Paul – Cadet Team Kata Gold, Individual Kata Gold, and Elite Individual Silver

2. Diya Roy – Cadet Team Kata Gold and Individual Kata Silver

3. Shree Das – Cadet Team Kata Gold

4. Debansh Bose – Sub-Junior Individual Kumite Bronze (+55 kg)

5. Sk. Ishan Wafi – Sub-Junior Team Kata Bronze

6. Laavyan Chhajer – Sub-Junior Team Kata Bronze

Hanshi Premjit Sen, President of Karate Do Association of Bengal and a World Karate Federation (WKF) Referee & Judge, was also invited to represent India as a referee at the championship.

“It’s a moment of immense pride to see my students excel on the international stage,” said Hanshi Premjit Sen. “Their dedication and hard work have paid off, and I’m honored to have played a part in their journey.”

The Commonwealth Karate Championship is a prestigious event organized by the Commonwealth Karate Federation, featuring top karate players from Commonwealth nations. This year, 23 countries participated in the event.
