New Delhi (India), August 24: Dilshad Kamaludheen, a badminton player who hails from a town in Kerala, ascended the ranks to become a good badminton player in Men Doubles. He is known for his footwork and shots. With a career spanning over two decades, he showcased a blend of technique, agility, and sportsmanship.
Dilshad’s journey was made by numerous triumphs from local and international tournaments. His ability to strategize and adapt to various playing styles made him a good player. He played both single and men’s doubles.
Childhood and Emergence:
The saga of Dilshad’s journey in the realm of badminton originates from Kerala, India in Rajiv Gandhi’s indoor stadium. Endowed with a natural attraction towards athletic pursuits, Dilshad’s early years unfolded with bounded talent. His interest in badminton would transform into a lifelong devotion to a discipline he would ultimately command in this sport.
From early years onwards, Dilshad showcased quickness and synchronization, setting him good on local playgrounds and captivating the notice of his contemporaries and seniors alike. He focuses on footwork, racket manipulation, and shots. It was during these early years that the intrinsic aptitude within Dilshad began to effulge, establishing the footing for a future bedecked with athletic conquests. His father, a businessman in Dubai, was also a state-level badminton player who supported him. He did his schooling at our own high school in Dubai and then moved to Kerala. He then completed his BCA in Computer Science application from Sacred Heart College, Thevara.
Laying the Foundation for the Unseen Horizon:
Dilshad’s initiation into the realm of professional badminton debuted on the stage of the Kerala state-level tournament, which happened in Kozhikode. He participated in the Boys’ Singles. He started his career young at the age of 14 years old in Dubai, UAE in the India Club-Western Union UAE Open badminton tournament.
Within a pivotal juncture in his vocation, Dilshad found himself in the World University Championship hosted in Gwangju, Korea. Alongside his counterpart, Suraj P.H., he played the Men’s Doubles challenge. The tournament was confronted against adversaries of considerable stature, encompassing erstwhile Olympic medalists Lee Yong-dae and Ki Jung Kim. He lost to him in the pre-quarterfinals.
As his skills persisted, Dilshad’s faculties for leadership ascended to the forefront. Orchestrating the MG University contingent to victory, he laid claim to both the South Zone and All India University Championships in 2013.
In the upcoming years, he was going toward Cordoba, Spain, wherein he undertook the mantle of Team Leader in the World University Championship. This international play served to hone his strategic skills, thereby bestowing upon him an insight into the sporting landscape on a global scale. He was selected to lead his team in the 2014 World University Championship as the captain of the Indian team.
He participated in the Canada Open Badminton Championship and the US Open Grand Prix Gold.
A juncture of pronounced significance within his trajectory emerged in the form of the Rahimtoola Cup, the National Championship convened in Vijayawada in 2015. Standing as a player of the Kerala State delegation, Dilshad clinched a bronze medal. In that year, he joined the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs as well.
In collaboration with Tarun Kona, hailing from Hyderabad, Dilshad embarked upon a venture within the Men’s Doubles domain, thereby spanning various international tournaments. Their collective endeavours at the Lagos International Tournament won them a bronze medal.
Anticipations surged, and competition escalated in intensity. Culminating in his inclusion in prestigious tournaments that subjected his skills to the severest evaluations Dilshad’s meticulous strategizing on the court and his rapid act of the playing field drew the attention of both coaches and selectors.
In the Wake and the Journey to Reclamation:
He partnered up with Balasubramanian, marking a pivotal crossroads in Dilshad’s journey catalyzing a series of events that would challenge his fortitude. He won the state Kerala competition award in the men’s doubles category. He then played in Dubai International Challenge 2018 and 2019. He took a break and returned after a few months.
Return to Badminton and a new goal:
Dilshad’s reentry into the badminton tournament was by participating in IDBI Federal Life Insurance Hyderabad which opened in 2019. He then participated in the Infosys Foundation India International Challenge and Chhattisgarh International Challenge in 2022. While his unwavering commitment to badminton remained unchanged, Dilshad started focusing on his education as well. He is currently enrolled in the MBA Program at Middlesex University in London.
As Dilshad’s reclamation unfolds, he leaves in his wake a legacy characterized by dedication and love towards his sport.
