A Collective Effort for Change

The petition, signed by 382 students, outlines critical concerns regarding improper waste disposal, infrequent trash clearance, and safety risks posed by stray animals near garbage sites. Dr. Chandrashekar DP, CEO of JGI Schools, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We are grateful for the GHMC’s efforts in improving living conditions in Hyderabad, but we must also advocate for a healthier environment for our community.”

The day was filled with excitement and community spirit, as attendees enjoyed medical aid, post-run meals, and entertainment. The involvement of schools and families not only fostered a sense of camaraderie but also emphasized the importance of nurturing environmental consciousness among future generations.
Highlighting Key Issues
The petition details specific hygiene issues that affect the health and safety of students and local residents, including:
1. Improper Waste Disposal: The presence of litter on roads and footpaths resulting in foul odors.
2. Infrequent Trash Clearance: Regular collection of waste being insufficient, contributing to unhygienic conditions.
3. Safety from Stray Animals: Concerns about street dogs near garbage dumps posing risks to children and pedestrians.
Dr. Chandrashekar’s letter further underscores the need for continued collaboration with the GHMC to address these issues effectively. The JGI Schools community is eager to participate in initiatives that foster a cleaner Hyderabad, thereby ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.
A Commitment to Collaboration
As the Ozone Run 2024 concluded, JGI Schools expressed their hope for a positive response from GHMC regarding their petition. The school’s involvement in this event reinforces their commitment to environmental education and community service. “We believe that our active participation can catalyze meaningful change in how sanitation is managed in our city,” Dr. Chandrashekar added.
Looking Ahead
JGI Schools remains dedicated to working hand-in-hand with local authorities to create a cleaner and more hygienic Hyderabad. The school looks forward to further discussions with the GHMC to explore actionable solutions that benefit the community at large.
