With Hemrajs’ abstract artworks around, its an arena where patterns, textures and colours play with one another, something like a secret game. The spectator could, try however hard he might, for the spreads impel, but would fall short of understanding in spite of the intimations!

Hemraj has been producing a vast body of monumental abstract paintings integrating aspects of blurring and light with impasto applications of paint. He invariably builds up many layers making the final image resemble shimmering cave art for the child like forms that are laid unabashedly, just like a child does: express his innate with zero inhibition. As we see in certain artworks, he also plays with how his applications can create rippling effects with the smaller strokes that are etched out by scraping the paint away also creating the impact of some puzzle that he’s trying to uncover and as enmeshed in creating it as attempting to have it convey the underlying.
The process of blending with the roller here and there creates blurred effects, and passages of diffused masses or paled out underlying colors that remarkably lend his canvases the enigmatic whispers.
Hemraj blends, smears and scrapes the many layers of paint on his abstracts with the roller and various other tools, resulting in some, a bit too busy with abstract forms and some a little at ease on that front . In doing so, Hemraj includes elements of spontaneity to the mostly horizontal spread of layers upon layers.
