Business News

During BharatKool Adhyay-2, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi held an extensive discussion with Shri Ajay Umat in Ahmedabad regarding the 2030 Commonwealth Games and other important topics related to sports. Shri Sanghavi stated,

“The selection of Ahmedabad to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games is a moment of pride for both Gujarat and India. The city’s world-class infrastructure and preparations are ready to provide the best experience to international athletes and visitors. Credit for this achievement is due to both national and state-level leadership. Gujarat now has the dual responsibility and pride of presenting itself to the world.”

Shri Sanghavi congratulated all Gujaratis and Indians, highlighting that Gujarat’s sporting journey began in 2010 with Khel Mahakumbh, which today sees the participation of 7.3 million young people.

He noted that when Shri Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister, the development of sports infrastructure in Gujarat had already begun. Home Minister Shri Amit Shah has taken a keen interest in the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, holding five-hour meetings to review preparations. Hosting international events reflects the city’s image, and to be fully prepared, specific changes are necessary, including controlling noise pollution, managing environmental concerns, and improving infrastructure. Shri Sanghavi also added that efforts are underway to make the city’s roads dust-free, which will benefit Ahmedabad as a whole.

During the discussion, Shri Ajay Umat raised questions regarding the prohibition of alcohol and drugs and recent media reports. Responding, Shri Sanghavi emphasised the importance of assessing the credibility of any news before accepting it. Regarding the drug menace, he stated,

“To tackle this issue, the support of the entire society is essential. Gujarat is safer compared to other states. We have implemented a reward policy and various initiatives to recognise courageous police officers who apprehend drug offenders. Over the past four years, significant progress has been made in this regard, and I am proud of the Gujarat Police. We always apprehend drug sellers, not users, as our aim is to reform, not ruin, the youth. Our policing is conducted responsibly. The Gujarat ATS team fought for three days to intercept drugs coming from Pakistan, preventing them from entering Gujarat. We always aim to eradicate the menace at its root.”
