NEW DELHI: Reacting to activist Neha Bora’s reported remarks concerning youth protests in Bangladesh, Amb. Dr. Rajeev Menon, National Secretary General of the Republican Party of India (Athawale), has urged the Union Home Minister to take cognizance of the matter and consider appropriate legal action, including action under the National Security Act (NSA), subject to applicable legal provisions.
Dr. Menon objected to what he described as attempts to draw parallels between unrest in Bangladesh and India’s constitutional system. He alleged that such statements could encourage unrest and adversely affect public order.
“India is a democracy founded on the Constitution drafted under the chairmanship of Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Any statement that appears to endorse violence against democratic institutions or encourage similar unrest in India deserves careful scrutiny by the competent authorities,” Dr. Menon said.
He further argued that freedom of speech must be exercised within the framework of the law and urged the relevant authorities to examine the remarks and take appropriate action if any legal violation is established.
Dr. Menon reiterated his appeal to the Union Home Minister and central law enforcement agencies to assess the matter in accordance with the law, emphasizing the importance of protecting public order and maintaining the country’s democratic institutions.
