Kavish Sinha is the go-to casting director in the industry. He runs his casting company On-My-Kayroll and has some incredible web and film projects under his belt. The Empire, an upcoming magnum opus on Disney+Hotstar is a primary example. It’s based on the glorious Mughal Empire and boasts proudly of a cast that includes Shabana Azmi, Kunal Kapoor, Dino Morea, Drashti Dhami and other phenomenal talents from across the country. There is also the upcoming Ajay Devgn and Rashi Khanna starrer finite series Rudra for Disney+Hostar and a biopic of India’s greatest minds Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai called ROCKET BOYS for Sony Liv portrayed by Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh, respectively. These are some of the most anticipated projects in the OTT space and we haven’t heard anything bigger than them. The real test of a casting director here is that every character is challenging to cast as it has extremely specific needs, especially in the OTT space. Let’s just hear it from the man himself on how he goes about it.
We spoke to Kavish and here is what he has to say, “The process of casting for a character is like making a delicacy. One needs to know the right flavour, feel and look of the character. OTT is a space that is highly character-specific and performance-oriented as the whole world is the audience. We are watching Game of Thrones and Vikings and if we don’t live up to the bill, they will butcher the content, and rightly so. The audience is investing in us. This drives all of us to level up. The projects such as the Empire, Mumbai Diaries – 26/11 on Amazon Prime Video, Rocket Boys and Rudra are going to place us on the world map in terms of content. I loved casting for them. There were thousands and thousands of auditions and we got what we set out to find finally. We are all very happy about this and it just seems to be the beginning for On-My-Kayroll.”
It’s famously quoted that a great cast is half the battle won and we truly believe that Kavish’s work is an embodiment of that fact. We can’t wait to see what he creates next. All episodes of The Empire stream on Disney+Hotstar on 27th of August.
