SLS Pune organizes an induction programme for the 5-Year B.A / B.BA L.L.B (Hons) Programme

India, September 28: Symbiosis Law School, Pune, a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), held the induction programme for the 5-Year B.A/B.B.A L.L.B (Hons) Programme at the SVC-Auditorium on 16th September 2022 at 12:00 P.M IST. The event was for the fresh batch of admitted first-year students to enlighten them about the SLS pedagogy.

The programme commenced with the lighting of the auspicious lamp, followed by the Director’s address by Prof. Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU, Jean Monnet Chair Professor (EUC-Lamp co-funded by EU). In her welcome address, Prof. Dr. Gurpur briefly welcomed the august gathering. She touched upon the various cornerstones of the journey of a law student and called it the “Diksharambh”, or the beginning of the journey.

She quoted Dr. Ram Jethmalani’s words, “That simply knowing the law means a mason but to be a good lawyer one needs to become an architect” to teach the importance of deeper understanding and comprehension to students.

Dr. Gurpur laid out the vision and the mission behind Symbiosis, to bring about a quality change in the realm of education. According to her Symbiosis Law School, Pune (SLS-P) is a “classic law school not weathered by years”. She also mentioned the NIRF ranking, wherein SLS-P was ranked third in the country. She went on to mention some of the alumni who achieved success in the legal field. She also shared the Placement statistics of the present and previous academic year and highlighted some of the international internships and placements secured by the students. She also briefly introduced the various Cells and Committees and encouraged the students to explore the various dimensions of college and, at the same time, hone their leadership skills. She laid down a roadmap for the five years of law school and explained the exam rules and code of conduct. Dr. Gurpur ended her presentation with an introduction of the members of the Student Advisory Board (SAB), the Faculty and the Division Heads for the first-year batch.

Mr. Prashant Pandey conducted a Yoga Orientation for the students. He commenced the session with a short yogic technique explaining the six steps to enhance the power of the mind. He encouraged the students to follow the instructions of the institution in order to be good lawyers. Mr. Pandey explained how students could deal with academic and non-academic stress.

Dr. Rahul and Ms. Prajakta from Symbiosis Center for Emotional Well-Being (SCEW) conducted the ice-breaking session in order to make the students comfortable in the new environment. They touched upon the various challenges in a student’s life and how to overcome the same. This segment was immediately followed by a segment “Been there done that”, conducted by Mr. Sampath Bulusu, an alumnus of SLS-P. He emphasized the importance of inculcating good reading habits in order to develop sound reasoning and critical skills.

Prof. Bindu Ronald, Co-Head, SCALSAR, Symbiosis Law School, Pune, conducted the session on anti-ragging. She started off by explaining the zero-tolerance policy of the institution toward ragging. The same was supplemented with directives of the Supreme Court of India. Furthermore, she informed students about the methods of recourse one could seek upon being a victim or witness of ragging and the consequences for perpetrators.

The programme ended on a successful note with the vote of thanks, delivered by comperers Poushali Chakma and Nanda Prasad, Members, Student Advisory Board, 2022-23.
