New Delhi, June 11, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the efforts of Soumyabrata Sengupta, Media Advisor to the Government of India and Vice President of the BJP in West Bengal, for his contributions to strategic communication in India’s North-Eastern states, including Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

Sengupta has been involved in high-level communication planning for the Ministries of Defence and External Affairs. His interventions have focused on managing narratives in areas affected by separatist movements and insurgency, with particular attention to community-based messaging, vernacular media integration, and counter-disinformation efforts.

A senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) confirmed that Prime Minister Modi, in a recent high-level security communication review, commended Sengupta’s “discreet yet effective media management” in insurgency-prone areas. His work has helped foster a more balanced perception of central policies in regions previously dominated by disinformation and foreign-backed ideological movements.

Sengupta’s media blueprint has included the integration of local language content, collaboration with regional voices, and strategic engagement with border communities to reinforce trust in state institutions. The Prime Minister’s recognition is viewed as an endorsement of Sengupta’s success in handling communication across border-sensitive zones.

Last month, Sengupta was also conferred the honorary rank of Major in Indian Army’s Rajput Regiment, acknowledging his civilian contributions to defence communication and policy alignment.

With rising geopolitical interest in the North-East due to its proximity to China, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, effective information control and trust-building among the local populace are increasingly seen as integral to national security.
