Mumbai girl Discharged After Historic Shoulder-Level Arm Transplant

Health

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], October 18: When the Donate Life team met her, the recipient emotionally expressed, “Late Riya’s family is also my family. I will tie Rakhi on Late Riya’s brother next year with Late Riya’s right hand.”

A 15-year-old Mumbai girl, the world’s youngest shoulder-level arm transplant recipient, has been discharged from Global Hospital Mumbai after a miraculous recovery. This Miraculous transplant has given her a second chance, enabling her to regain independence and confidence.

Tribute to the Late Riya Bobby Mistry

This breakthrough transplant was made possible by the selfless donation of 9-year-old Riya Bobby Mistry, the youngest hand donor globally. Riya Bobby Mistry was declared brain dead at Kiran Hospital in Surat. Displaying extraordinary courage and kindness, Riya’s family made the decision to donate her organs through Donate Life. Her hands, along with her lungs, liver, kidneys and Corneas, were donated, giving new life to seven people.

Accident and Transplant

In October 2022, a 15-year-old Mumbai girl’s life took a dramatic turn when she suffered a devastating electrical accident on her cousin’s house terrace in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. While playing, she accidentally touched a live 11,000 KW electrical wire, resulting in severe injuries and burns on both hands. Due to gangrene, the right arm at the shoulder level was amputated.

Dr. Nilesh Satbhai and his team performed the groundbreaking transplant at Global Hospital Mumbai.

Gratitude and Hope

When the Donate Life team met the recipient and her family at Global Hospital Mumbai, the recipient emotionally expressed, “Late Riya’s family is also my family. I will tie Rakhi on Late Riya’s brother next year with Late Riya’s right hand.”

Her parents thanked Late Riya’s parents and the Donate Life organisation, saying, “Their selfless hand donation has given our daughter a second life.”
