Godaji Jagtap Museum: A New Chapter of Maratha Valor Opens in Nashik October 2025

multifarious

Nashik, Maharashtra, April 2025:  A monumental cultural moment is about to unfold in Nashik, Maharashtra, with the grand opening of the Godaji Jagtap Museum this coming October 2025. Built to honor one of the fiercest warriors of the Maratha Empire, this museum is a tribute to the valor and legacy of Sardar Godaji Jagtap, a trusted aide and military commander of Shree Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Located at Mangalmurti Bunglow, Trimurti Dutta Police Housing Society, Panchavati, Nashik, the museum stands on land symbolically tied to Godaji Jagtap’s ancestral lineage. Visitors will explore exhibits that span centuries of Maratha martial tradition, featuring rare artifacts such as the Dandpatta, Talwar, Khanda, and the legendary Wagh Nakh.

The project has been led by Anil Vasantrao Jagtap, a retired State CID fingerprint expert who proudly belongs to the esteemed 96k Maratha Jagtap warrior clan. Drawing inspiration from his family’s illustrious legacy, Anil Jagtap has spent years collecting, restoring, and preserving ancestral Maratha weapons, armor, archival records, and heirlooms.

Anil Jagtap’s lineage is distinguished.

His father, Shri Vasantrao Laxmanrao Jagtap, and his grandfather, Shri Laxmanrao Narsing Jagtap, both served as respected Police Sub-Inspectors during the British Raj. Notably, his grandfather contributed significantly during the Nizamshahi Annexation efforts and supported Indian freedom fighters discreetly behind the scenes. The British government honored their family with rare rewards such as a double-bore rifle, a gramophone, and one of the earliest box cameras — marking the arrival of photography to their household.

Beyond his official duties, Anil Vasantrao Jagtap is also an accomplished historian and researcher of ancient and medieval Indian history. His archaeological discoveries — including ancient idols, terracotta figurines, and ancient grain samples from Kalyan and Mangrulgaon — have been documented in regional newspapers. He was also a proud member of Shri Godbole Sir’s History Club in Kalyan, further cementing his deep ties to historical preservation.

Adding a modern dimension to the museum experience is the Godaji Souvenir Store, operated by Mrs. Anita Anil Jagtap, a dynamic entrepreneur. Through her brand Lonewolf37 Merchandise, she brings to life handcrafted Maratha-themed collectibles, miniature weapon replicas, historical books, and cultural gifts — all available at the museum and online.

The Godaji Jagtap Museum will welcome visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with free entry for children under 13. School groups, history enthusiasts, patriots, and tourists will find an inspiring glimpse into the untold stories of Maratha resilience and honor.

This initiative is not just a museum — it is a living mission to revive cultural pride, historical knowledge, and the undying spirit of Swarajya.
