Life Style

New Delhi, April 19, 2025 — Dr. Nuzarath Jahan, a noted social activist, philanthropist, and political leader from Calicut, Kerala, has been selected as a lifetime member of the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations (HRCUN). The appointment recognizes her outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes, both in India and abroad.

Dr. Jahan’s social service record spans over two decades, including major initiatives during the Kerala floods and continued advocacy for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). A veteran of the aviation industry, she worked in key management roles with major airlines such as Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Oman Air from 1992 to 2013. Her career gave her firsthand insight into the challenges faced by Indian expatriates, which she later addressed through activism.

Her political journey began with her candidacy in the 2019 Parliament elections from Calicut, where she ran as an independent voice for NRIs and minority communities. She currently serves as the National Vice President of the Republican Party of India (Athawale) and Chairperson of the Happy Voice Foundation.

Dr. Jahan’s work includes organizing support for differently-abled children, HIV-positive patients, and tribal students in Kerala. She led the “Mission Save Calicut Airport” campaign and played a crucial role in reinstating Code E aircraft and Hajj embarkation facilities at the Calicut International Airport.

In December 2018, she staged a hunger strike in Delhi to advocate for lowering the cost of repatriating the bodies of Indians who died abroad. The protest led to a government policy change, easing financial burdens on families of deceased migrants.

She is also the International President of the International Human Rights Defenders and General Coordinator for the rehabilitation of Indian prisoners abroad.

Dr. Jahan holds an MBA in Aviation Security Management from Edith Cowan University, Australia, and a PhD in Spiritual Science from Calcutta University. Her publications include Pennu Rastriyathe Thodumbol and the recently released Modi Mahatma at the 2025 World Book Fair.

Her numerous accolades include the Nari Shakti Award (2022), National Social Award (2023), and National Women’s Excellence Award (2024). She resides in Calicut with her daughter and continues to be actively involved in grassroots and international advocacy efforts.

With her recent recognition by the United Nations Human Rights Commission, Dr. Nuzarath Jahan’s role as a global voice for justice and equity has only grown stronger.
