WORLD

In an era where global connectivity and international cooperation are paramount, a significant milestone in experiential education was recently achieved through a collaborative effort between Lazarus Union-India and the Ashoka Group of Schools, Nashik. A high-level educational delegation of students recently completed a comprehensive visit to the United Nations Office in Vienna (UNOV) and the Austrian Parliament House, providing a rare glimpse into the inner workings of global governance and democratic legislative processes.

The initiative serves as a progressive departure from traditional classroom-based pedagogy, offering students a unique platform to witness the fundamentals of International Relations and Cultural Diplomacy at the grassroots level. By navigating the corridors of these prestigious institutions, the young delegates gained first-hand insights into how international organizations manage complex global challenges and how democratic systems function in a European context.

Fostering Global Citizenship through Direct Engagement:

The primary objective of the mission was to equip students with a realistic understanding of global organizational structures. During their time at the United Nations Office in Vienna – one of the four major global headquarters of the UN – the students explored the nuances of multilateralism. The visit highlighted the importance of collective action in addressing issues such as Cyber Security, Environmental Care, Human Rights, Peace & Security which students presented during their session in UNODC Office.

Furthermore, the visit to the Austrian Parliament House allowed the delegation to observe the mechanics of a national democratic system. This dual exposure to both international and national governance provided a balanced perspective on how local policies often intersect with global mandates, fostering a deeper appreciation for the complexities of modern diplomacy.
